    Hiding Multiple Products

    Hi there

Just when you thought it was safe, I'm back again with more questions...!!!

Having taken over someone else's webstore, we need to hide lots of products which he never actually stocked(!)

At the moment this is being done the hard way:  Locate the product, edit it, set the drop-down to "Hidden", Update, go back to the page of products and start again on the next one.  It's taking ages as we have hundreds to do.

Is there a shortcut of some kind?  I wondered about downloading the product list, editing it and uploading it again, but not sure of the effect of doing this.  In particular I don't want to lose all the HTML formatting and pictures with lightboxes etc that we've lovingly started to put onto the products we DO stock!

If we transferred the product we want into new categories, then hid the old categories, would that hide the products in those old categories, or would they still be searchable by default?  I don't want customers to come across them in any way.

Any help gratefully received, as ever.

    Jeff

I would be tempted to use the bulk importer / exporter. I think there is a setting on there to change the display status. Any problems repost or contact us.

    Re: Hiding Multiple Products

    Hi again

So if we export the product list, amend the appropriate column to Hidden for the products we want to lose, then import the list again, will that overwrite the existing products, or will it create additional ones?  I'm a bit scared of using the bulk option without understanding it better!  :-)

Also, once a product is hidden, can we get it back?

    Thanks and regards

    Jeff

    Re: Hiding Multiple Products

Hi Jeff, I am unsure about the first part of your question as I have never done it. I do know though that hidden products can be unhidden at any time.

    Re: Hiding Multiple Products

    Hi again, Blue Charm

That's what I need to do.  How do you call them up to unhide them?  If I search for the product it won't appear, presumably because it's hidden.

    Cheers

    Re: Hiding Multiple Products

Hi again Jeff, go to your admin area - my products - products manager Then at the very bottom there is a drop down menu you will see it, it says all (except hidden) select Only hidden from the drop down menu and then click on the button on the left that says show all. All your hidden products will now show. Hope this helps Tracey

FANTASTIC.  Well done, Tracey, saved me loads of work. Never spotted that option.

This is where an EWS user guide would be SO helpful.  In the meantime, you are the guru!

I might treat myself to a celebratory cup of tea...

    Re: Hiding Multiple Products

    Hi Jeff,

If you're happy to let your own 'sold out' and 'out of stock' items be hidden, there is an option to hide them all with one check box.

Login to your account then go to "Site Design" and then "General Settings". About half way down is an option to hide all out of stock items.

    Re: Hiding Multiple Products

    Hi Dan

Thanks for that.  I'm afraid we need people to be able to order stuff that's out of stock (we can then order in).

I'm worried about the export/import route because we make much use of the advanced product options and I can't see how they export and then import back in again.

We seem to be a bit stuck on this one.

    Thanks anyway

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

Yeah, we have the same issue ourselves. I do the same as you at the moment by hiding them individually. I did have a look at the import option but I'm afraid it baffled me too! Worried I'd either lose or mess up the products so I stuck with the safe option!!
